“Don’t you understand how Jim’s feeling at the moment?“ McCoy asked.
"No,” said Spock.
McCoy sighed and laid down his PADD.
“Well, obviously, he’s feeling very emotional, because of you and Uhura breaking up. Then I expect he’s feeling confused because he liked Uhura and now he likes you, and he can’t work out who he likes best. Then he’ll be feeling guilty, thinking it’s an insult to Uhura’s friendship to be kissing you at all, and he’ll be worrying about what everyone else might say about him if he starts going out with you. And he probably can’t work out what his feelings toward you are anyway, because you were the one who was with him when he died so that’s all very mixed up and painful. Oh, and he’s afraid he’s going to be fired from his Captaincy because he’s been under so much scrutiny from the Admiralty.”
A slightly stunned silence greeted the end of this speech, then Spock said, “One person cannot feel all that at once, they would explode.”
“Just because you’ve got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn’t mean we all have,” said McCoy nastily, picking up his PADD again
