Very annoying trope on television: When a doctor says “I’m sorry” to a person instead of telling them their loved one is dead.

“I’m sorry” can literally mean anything. Are you sorry they’re so badly injured? Are you sorry the hospital is out of good coffee?? Are you sorry but you couldn’t hear what anyone was saying right then?

A doctor can and should be able to say “She croaked, m’am” instead of relying on telepathic communication.
